Nathaniel, rocking bass player in The Glads, is a hot-shot
guitar slinger in The
Fortunate Sons. They are playing a show next weekend. If y'all are
in Toronto be sure and check 'em out. It's Rock and Roll heaven, hep
cats.
The Fortunate Sons with Nathaniel Mayer and the Shanks, Shikasta.
Horseshoe Tavern, Queen Street, Toronto, Ontario.
Saturday August 6th.
July 1, 2005 8:30 pmjuol 01 2005Ladies and gentlemen, The Reverend Jim.
Jim Sproull, legendary lead guitar fellow for The Glads also fronts RunStop Restore. What an
excellent band. They rock. They roll. They howl. They jump. They sweat.
Crazy good fun. While visiting lovely Ottawa this summer, what with a
Glads fellow on the DL and all, please check out RunStop Restore. Also,
there is Mono Hum
featuring Glads drummer Tim. Yeah! And then there is the Golden Famile.
Nathaniel plays the bass there and looks so good. Cool. Rock the heck
out. Happy Dominion Day all. Have a brilliant summer now.
In classic Glads' luck, we've lost another arm. Tip for touring bands: If you value your life/possessions, stay away from the Glads! Patrick fell off his bike and his arm got broked pretty good. Luckily, it won't require surgery (wimp). So, I guess we now have an excuse to have a lazy, hazy summer. Enjoy the heat, all!
April 10, 2005 8:24 pmapr2604Nicely done.
Thank you all for coming out to our show on Friday at Zaphods.
It sure was swell to hang out with y'all. The High Dials were brilliant
as usual. They have a new organ player. Sounds good to me. What cool
sounds. I was quite impressed with The Hitmakers. They are a local
combo who have escaped detection until this weekend. They make good
guitar pop. I'll go see 'em again. Way to go all you Friday night
bands. The Glads have no shows booked at this time. We'll let you know
when we do. So while you're waiting for all that, why not catch Glads
drummer Tim with his other band Mono Hum, eh?
They are playing Irene's pub on Tuesday April 12th with Z'Houndz. Okay.
Baseball season has started. See you at opening day, right? Yeah.
March 7, 2005 5:09 pmapr2604It's about freakin' time.
New show added. We're playing with The High Dials on April 8th.
Details in the shows
section. Guess we better plug them guitars back in, eh?
February 1, 2005 5:25 pmIn The Movies
Hey. No shows booked but The
Glads are on the silver screen. Sort of. Two older Glads songs are
making an appearance in Horsie's Retreat a new feature length film by Tony
Asimakopoulos. It's a cool creepy flick. Check it out when it comes to
a screen in your area. It'll be making the festival circuit this year
so keep an eye on your towns indie film schedule. Also featured on the
soundtrack are The Dead City Rebels featuring Glads bass guitarist
Nathaniel on electric guitar as well as songs by Holy Hell featuring
Glads electric guitarist Patrick on the bass guitar. Go figure. Now
let's all go the lobby and get ourselves a treat.
January 22, 2005 6:02 pmapr2604Rocking The Rivoli.
January 10, 2005 7:42 pmjan_10_2005So where the hell was Don Valley anyway?
Many thanks to all our pals in Toronto and beyond for coming out to
our show last Friday at the Rivoli. Very nice to see you all. Way cool
to meet some new folks. The bands sounded fine and dandy. The Midways
were wyld and wooly. We love those boys. They know how to do the rock
and roll. They sound and look and often smell great. And they have no
hang-ups about lending us their instruments. The Pauls were nifty as
well. Fun and catchy art-school guitar bop in track pants. Very nice
lads to boot. Well, the Paul I met anyway. We were happy about playing
the show. It was worth the 12 hours spent in Jims car listening to ZZ
Top and Cheap Trick records. Slip inside this sleeping bag indeed. One
thing to note regarding Toronto: it is not necessarily "Lap Dance
City". Although you may be forgiven for calling it "Really Tall Guys
With Sharp Duds and Brillcreemed Hair City". Or something like that.
Yee haw!
January 6, 2005 11:06 amBack to TO
Let's all go to The Rivoli tomorrow in beautiful downtown Toronto! We're playing a show there! Bring $5 with you and maybe some extra for a brew or two! Read all about it in the Now magazine spread to which Patrick was intimately involved! I've archived it in our press section!
Alright!
December 16, 2004 7:43 pmapr2604Glad tidings of comfort and joy.
Thank you very much for coming out to our boss record release. What a
blast. Sorry for having to cancel the gig in K-town. Whoops. I guess we
will see you next in Toronto on January the 7th. At The Rivoli with The
Midways and The Pauls. You can bet that all parties involved will be
sure to tear it up. So while you are sitting around all soft and lazy
this holiday season, y'all should go out and buy our new record. She
makes a cool stocking stuffer. Order it here.
Okay. See you
around. Have a safe and healthy festive season.
November 27, 2004 6:35 pmapr2604Party Central.
Hot dog! Look out central Ontario. The Glads are happening. On stage
with drums and guitars and singing and some way-cool new numbers. So
the new record, our split 7" e.p. with fab garage rock 'n' roll
hep-cats, our Toronto pals The
Midways will be launched in your neighborhood any day now.
Wowsville! Check the shows
section for the skinny on these little trips down the highway. Please
come out and rock with The Glads this Autumn (this Winter) you dig?
Jim's got his snow tires on. Feel free to tag along. If you can't make
it out but still wish to buy this sure-fire hit record, this hot sexy
slab o' wax, this guaranteed party starter, you can contact Music For
Cats Records
and secure your copy of this wild and wooly party platter. Oh baby! See
y'all on the dance floor. Oh please!
September 18, 2004 3:23 pmapr2604Zounds! More sounds!
We have a new record on the way. The Glads have teamed up with
their pals in Toronto The Midways
to put out a 4-song 7" vinyl EP. Cool. It will be out this autumn, a
collaboration between Music
For Cats and Panty Raid Records. Record release shows should happen
in November and/or December in Toronto, Ottawa, and maybe Montreal.
This is an exciting thing. It's a great record with hits galore.
Believe it, baby! You still have a little while to wait for it but in
the meantime, why not enjoy a brand new Glads recording right now? We
have posted a cool song called Start
All Over exclusively for you, our hip web-fans. Rock your tiny
tinny little PC speakers and download this instant classic now. Dig the
music section.
Right then. Jim is on the mend and our summer vacation is over. Back to
the rock. We'll be in the basement soon and we can't wait to get all
drunk, confused and frustrated with you again real soon.
August 24, 2004 12:25 pmapr2604An extra day or two.
Guitar Jim has ended up on The DL. I hope it all works out for
him. Hope it don't hurt too damn much. Unexpected surgery even? Yow.
What does this mean for The Glads? I dunno. Give us an extended summer
vacation, I guess. What do you think? A week? Maybe two? We will keep
you posted. Worse things have happened to more popular bands. Hoist a
pint for Jim, enjoy the Olympics, keep your records going 'round and
we'll see you out there on a stage somewhere real soon. No worries.
Rock and Roll will persevere. Hot dog. Go Stubby Clapp! Go
Canamuthafuckinda!
July 2, 2004 8:11 pmapr2604Oh yeah. The Europeans say it best. I
think.
"I would say that they have a sound
which reminds me a little about The
Cramps but it isn't so that it's too much because this is more
punky in some way so it's not maybe right to compare with them either."
Cool!
June 4, 2004 6:33 pmapr2604Just like that Cliff Richard song.
We are going on a summer holiday. Indeed. The Glads will be
spending these next few months takin' it easy. Soaking up the sun and
the suds. If you're at the ol' ballpark, some of us will be there, root
root rooting for the home team. Try the first base side, hoist an
overpriced beer and watch for
objects that may be hit or thrown into the stands. If you need a dose
of more-or-less Gladrocking, why not try our other bands on for size.
Catch Jim
in his pop combo RunStopRestore
hopefully sometime in the near future.
Nathaniel plays guitar with The
Fortunate
Sons and bass in the excellent Golden Famile.
Drummer Tim provides the hot backbeat for Mono
Hum while both he and Patrick comprise
the rhythm section behind that golden voiced vixen Casey Comeau and her Halfmilers. Without your Glads
this summer there will still be rock aplenty. And punk. And folk. And
country &
western. And new-wave and, well, more cool sounds than you can shake a
stick at. Summer is here. Get out there and enjoy yourselves. We'll be
back with a hot new platter sometime after Labour Day, dig?
Keep your tubes hot, The Glads
May 20, 2004 8:00 pmapr2604More the rock & roll please.
Hey. Check us out in May at Irene's on Bank. This will probably be the
last Glads gig before we start our summer vacation. Whoo hoo. Details
are here.
April 18, 2004 5:09 pm0ct3003All

March 29, 2004 5:35 pmmar292004Badges? You need these steenking
badges!
We have no news but we have new pins. Get yours today. Your
back-pack or jean jacket
will thank you!
March 15, 2004 7:23 amMar072004Thank you
Montreal.
You rock. What a blast. Great night,
excellent folks. All guitars were "rode hard and put away wet". Cheers
to Cinema Chocolat. We like the way you rock and roll. The Weapons of
Mass Seduction were in top form. Loud and hyper, just the way I likes
it. Thanks boys. Can't wait to do it again sometime. Anyway, check out
the shows
section for info on our gig with The Singles. Pretty cool.
March 7, 2004 9:34 amMar072004City
of Fuzz.
The Glads will be making a live musical appearance in the province of
Quebec this Friday. Oh
baby, will you please join us at the Rock and Roll show? Can you dig
it? Hot
dog. The Glads and The Weapons of Mass Seduction and Cinema
Chocolat are all on board. It will be very very good. Drive or
walk up to Barfly.
Indeed. The party will happen at 4062 St-Laurent Blvd., Montreal,
Quebec. Loud guitars will rule the
day, will save the day. We can't wait to see you. We can't wait to play
to you.
Oh please, ladies and
gentlemen, will you listen to these fellows rock? It is all
absolutely outtasite. Thank you very much, baby.
February 11, 2004 4:50 pmGood show.
Thanks to all who came down to the Dominion last week. Everyone seemed
to have a fun time. The High
Dials were excellent. Nice play fellows. No Ottawa shows lined up
but we'll see you in Montreal next month. Cheers.
February 4, 2004 9:57 pmBig show.
We hope to see you this Saturday the 7th. All the action is happening
in Ottawa at The Dominion Tavern. We are sharing a bill with Montreal's
The High Dials. They are
pretty cool. Apologies for the date mix-up. Come on down, please.
January 18, 2004 4:18 pmNo Press is Bad Press
Our latest release, A Bad Case Of...The Glads been getting some very positive press lately. Maybe it's the cold weather. Not sure. Anyway, check out the new press section for a sampling (well, all of) the rave reviews!
January 10, 2004 11:21 am0ct3003
Change of plans.
The date for The High
Dials/Glads show at The Dominion Tavern has been changed to Saturday February the 7th. See
you there. In the meantime, go
buy a record.
December 8, 2003 8:10 pm0ct3003
What a gas.
Wow. What a cool record release party. Thanks to all who attended.
Cheers to Skip Jensen & his Shakin' Feet for the dirty blues rock
and roll action. Big thanks to our pals The Midways. One
of thee coolest bands in the country, dig? Those boys know how to make
it sound groovy. "Now just kinda shimmy and shake." Wicked! Come back
any time. Of course, none of the fun would have been possible without
John and Dave at Birdman Sound and Karen at Music For Cats. Go team.
Okay. No shows booked right away. Enjoy the festive season and we'll
see you in 2004.
November 30, 2003 9:47 am0ct3003
Record Release Party!
Holy crap. Our brand new record Bad Case of The Glads is out this Saturday the 6th. Come down to the Dominion Tavern, get smashed, and pick one up. We'll be kicking the rock into full gear with our pals from Toronto The Midways, and from Montreal Skip Jensen and his Shakin' Feet. Don't miss this show.
November 1, 2003 12:26 pm0ct3003
Big pile of news.
Loads of new action in the world of Gladrocking. Here goes. First, after a long
delay, our debut full length has arrived. Bad Case of The Glads will be
in stores this month. The record release date is set for December the 6th. More
details to be announced.
Secondly, The Glads music will be featured in a film in the near future. Horsie's
Retreat is a new production by Toronto filmmakers Tony Asimakopoulos and Karina Griffith. The film will be
released sometime in the spring. We'll let you know when and where screenings
take place.
Finally, The Glads laid down some brand new tracks over the Thanksgiving
weekend. So far so good. Turn up the rock! Wow. See you later
October 1, 2003 7:26 amA show.
Head down to Bumpers this Saturday night. Showtime is 10PM. The Glads, Blackball and The Weapons of Mass Seduction. Great.
September 16, 2003 4:30 pmNew MP3s!
Hi All! Just a quick note to let you know about some new mp3s in our music section. These are hot off the press (well, off DAT, actually) from our new album! Take a listen, won't ye? Then trade 'em with your friends! Then buy the record when it finally comes out! What a lot of !'s!
September 2, 2003 10:49 pmsept022003Septemberish.
Glad to be back here. We hope everyone had a fun summer. What is
new? The Glads LP is nearing completion. It has taken longer than we
expected but Bad Case Of The Glads
will be in your hot little hands before long. Thank you for your
patience. In other Glads news, we've booked a show in early October
with our friends Black Ball. Check the shows
section. The Glads took some well deserved time off in July and August.
We managed to get out of the basement for a while and enjoy the summer.
Now that we are back at it, the new songs are just flooding in.
Nathaniel is pulling out more cool riffs than you can shake a stick at.
Jim is writing more Gladrock than usual. Tim's drumming is getting
cooler - I still have a hard time keeping track of where his hands are
at. Patrick is writing less miserable lyrics these days but has added
more reverb to his daily grind. Just this week The Glads have added a
dirty Farfisa organ to the mix. Things are fresh and cool and, most
importantly, things are happening. Now that it is "jacket weather"
again, why not get out and give yourself a shake. There is a big pile
of live music happening of late. Enjoy it.
August 13, 2003 6:24 pmCool it down.
Heatwave shmeatwave. If you wanna be cool all you gotta do is come down
and rock with The Glads. We're on this Saturday the 16th at Bumpers on
Bank Street. Space Elevator
are down from Toronto to satisfy all your catchy pop and rock needs.
The show should start at 10:30 or 11:00 depending on whether or not The Lynx go into extra innings. If that's the case then Patrick might be late. Oh baby, the wild-card race is on!
July 17, 2003 7:14 pmSummer in the city.
Okay, so Bluesfest was really cool. We had a blast up there on the
Birdman stage playing through expensive Fender amplifiers. We had a
blast digging all the lovely music. Thanks to John and the Birdman crew
for a spectacular couple o' weeks. Right now we are going to rest our
ears a little bit. The Glads are on vacation till, oh, I don't know...
how about August? We have no shows booked and are finishing all the
little details for the record. It's gonna be great. We have a title.
It's called Bad Case of The Glads. Our pal Darren Merinuk is
doing the art and it looks amazing so far. Right then. Enjoy the
summer. Ride your bike. Stay cool and refreshed. Get out and cheer your
local bands and your local baseball team. Aw-right!
June 30, 2003 7:21 amWhat Was/What Is
We'd just like to take some time to thank our new bestest friends Bloodshot Bill And His Hubcaps and Ruth's Hat for driving all the way from parts a-yonder to Ottawa and for helping us put on one of the funnest shows EVER! The audience was small in number, but large in smiles and applause! Can't wait to see/play/chicken walk with you guys again.
In other Glads-related news...our next show will be at the Ottawa Bluesfest on the Birdman Sound stage. Be sure to pick up a full pass because there are close to four million good bands playing this year. FOUR MILLION!
June 23, 2003 1:46 pmMailing List dealie fixed
Apparently the little program Jim wrote to let folks join the Mailing List has been broken for quite some time. We just thought we were un-liked. Of course, this doesn't prove anything but does give us a sense of hope. Please feel free to Join and we'll send you upcoming show announcements and candid photos!
June 21, 2003 12:03 amJune 212003Extra Rock and Roll
We have a show lined up on Saturday the 28th at Irene's Pub on
Bank Street. Another cool rock and roll combo has been added to the
bill. Come see London's Ruth's Hat
rock out with Bloodshot
Bill & The Hubcaps and your old pals The
Glads. This is all very exciting indeed. On a completely unrelated
note... Has anyone heard of Stubby
Clapp? What were his parents thinking? Oh well. At least he's
Canadian.
June 9, 2003 5:02 pmJune092003Not much news.
Toronto was a blast. Cheers to Craig and Stacy for setting up a three
day rock and roll festival. Also, big thanks to Gaven and to Nancy for
putting us up. Our next show is on Saturday June 28 at Irene's on Bank
Street with Bloodshot Bill and The Hubcaps. Come out and see us. Don't
be a wiener.

goes. Check the shows

March 27, 2003 6:50 amMarch272003That's cool, that's trash.

The shows
section has been updated. We have loads of cool gigs coming up this
spring and are even booking into the summer. See you there.
February 16, 2003 10:55 amfeb162003Blown up and home again.
Thanks for braving the cold and coming out to the show. Thee Van Grits
rocked. Thanks again to Turnbull Van Grit for the loan of his amplifier.
Everything always works great till you set it on the stage, eh? The
Glads had a blast. My ears are still ringing. We'll have to do it again
soon at Irene's. Video golf and staff prices on beer? Whoo hoo!
February 8, 2003 1:02 pmFeb082003Bank Street blow up.
Dig us at Irene's this Saturday the 15th. Here's the poster.
January 29, 2003 8:27 pmJan292003I read the news today oh boy.
We got a mention in The Ottawa Sun. Find it here. See
you all Saturday the 15th at Irene's. Please view the shows
section for more details.
January 15, 2003 7:25 pmJanuary142003Moonlighting
Patrick also plays bass in Holy
Hell. Check them out this Saturday the 18th at Bumpers with The Stumblers. Rock!
Nathaniel plays bass in Golden Famile.
Check them out this Saturday the 18th in Montreal. Cool!
December 26, 2002 9:59 pmDec262002Ow! My freakin' ears!
Thanks to all of you who came out to our last show. Sorry we had to
shorten our set. That's what happens when your gear blows up. What a hassle.
Whoops. C'est la vie, oui?
Thanks to John and the gang at Birdman
Sound for another fine Festive Party. Photos to be posted real soon,
dig? Cheers to Golden Famile for stealing the show, to Chris Page for his
consistent brilliance, and to The Four Frames for being so cool and loud
and rocking.
December 17, 2002 6:43 pmnews dec 17 2002Happy Holidaze.
We hope to see you all this weekend. We are happy to be providing some
background music at the annual Birdman
Sound Festive Party. It's gonna be a blast. The Four Frames, Golden
Famile, and The Glen Nevous Retraction are on board as well. Cover is cheap.
Beer is cheap. Music is brilliant. Ho Ho Ho!
November 28, 2002 10:58 pmNov_28_2002Nat Rocks.
Nathaniel is the bass player in The Glads. Nathaniel feeds the band
thee coolest riffs. No shit! Tonight was practice night. Nathaniel
did not disappoint. He brought in a riff that the boys all got quite happy
over. The Nathaniel songs are bound to be hits. If they are not hits, well,
they are at least certainly fun to play. We are not sure where Nathaniel
gets his riffs. Patrick steals his riffs from Teenage Shutdown,
Pebbles, and Nuggets compilation LPs. Can you blame him? Those records
are groovy. Yup. Indeed. Nat, however, seems to be in a world of his own
when it comes to the rock and roll riffs. Go, Nathaniel. And thank you
very much.
The Glads have finished mixing their record. Mastering is next. After
that, well.... they will attempt to transfer their songs from magnetic
tape straight to your turntable. Please hang in there. It's gonna be cool.
Trust me. Oh baby!
November 18, 2002 4:40 pmnov_17_2002Merchandise
We now have things for sale. Be fashion conscious. Wear a Glads T-shirt
or pin. Wednesday was spent getting high on ink fumes down at Artguise
on Bank Street. Thanks to Jason for silk-screening a big pile of cool Glads
shirts. The design is by Darren Merinuk. It is grand. This week we also
received a new batch of buttons. All this will be available at our next
show.
If you want to purchase a shirt via mail-order, email Patrick
for details.

The pictures
page has been updated. Feel free to enjoy snap-shots of The Glads in the
studio. Outtasite!
November 3, 2002 3:11 pmnov032002
Thanks to everyone who came out to the show last night. Cheers
to Molly and Crawdaddy Simon for coming down from Montreal. The night was
a success all around. The new stage at Bumpers allows everyone a good view
of the bands. The full house was treated to the fab sounds of Bytowns newest
rock and roll combo Thee Van Grits. Great show, lads. Sharp dressed and
sounding fine. This was The Glads first headlining gig. It felt pretty
good to be able to keep going after 9 songs. Many people stayed around
till the end and there was even some dancing. A rare occurrence indeed.
Jim blew his amp all to hell. Cheers to Brian Van Grit for loaning us his
cool Fender. The Glads are back in the studio in two weeks to finish their
record. As for this week, check out our pals Le
Nombre this Wednesday the 6th with Electric Eel Shock. 9PM at Zaphods
on York.
October 27, 2002 10:58 amThe Glads are playing a show this Saturday, November 02 down at Bumpers
Roadhouse. They've hooked up with their new friends Thee Van Grits who will
be treating Ottawa to their debut performance. Our spies tell us to expect
a flurry of cool rock and roll action. See you there.
October 27, 2002 10:58 amThe fellows spent last Saturday working on their record over at the fab
Little Bullhorn Studios here in Centertown. Kudos to Dave Draves for doing
such a fine job. The recordings are almost finished. Just a few hand claps,
backing voices, and other nibbley bits left to add. Patrick's voice survived
a day of growling and snarling, Jim and Nathaniel blazed through some
fuzzed out guitar solos, and everyone got good and drunk. Everything should
be finished by Christmas. Watch this space for more details.
September 26, 2002 11:28 am For any of you who've visited this site in the last 1.5 years (which just happens to be the length of time we've been together), you're no doubt familiar with our lead singer Patrick and his penchant for 50. He has fiendishly watched over our little site while we thought about putting something here. (You can get an idea of what I'm talking about - along with a bunch of nice photos - in our pictures section)
Well, Pat and Jim put their collective minds together (proving 2 heads are not always better than 1), and came up with a few lines describing the band (and to be truthfully honest Pat wrote all the words. Jim just copied it onto the web page). And that's about it. Luckily we also have some fine music and assorted other nonsense lying about. So take a gander and feel free to send us stuff.
